Top 10 Reasons to Celebrate Halloween in Ludington

Costumes! Candy! Tricks and treats! Here is a list of Halloween events sure to provide thrills for kids of all ages in Pure Ludington:

1. Teen Murder-Mystery Night, Thursday, October 11

Breaking News:”One of the library’s staff members has teamed up with a book character and killed Katniss Everdeen.” They need your help to find out who they are, and stop them before another character suffers their wrath!

This murder-mystery night at the Ludington Library is for grades 6-12, 6-8 p.m.

2. Spooky Trick-or-Treat at White Pine Village, Saturday, October 20

The historic grounds of White Pine Village turn into a wonderfully spooky place for the Halloween holiday, promoting fun for the whole family. This is an especially great event for small children, as they may make their way through the old-fashioned buildings of the village, filling their sacks with treats, from 3-6 p.m.

3. Haunted Hayrides at Cartier Park, Saturday, October 20

Make your way through the haunted forest of Cartier Park Campground, if you dare! This Connexion Point adventure is from 6-10 p.m., and could get scarier as the sun goes down. Cost is $5 per person, or grab a car-full of people for just $20.

4. Ghosts of White Pine, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26-27

Ghoulishly delicious evenings await those brave enough to encounter the “Ghosts of White Pine.” This is an evening of scary goodwill in the spirit of fun and fright for adults, 7-9 p.m. at White Pine Village.

Saturday, October 27 Events:

5. Run for Your Lives

Join the #Run Ludington Race Series by participating in this 5K/10K and Fun Run. The free Fun Run starts at 10 a.m., and 5K/10K at 10:15 a.m. at Ludington Pub. Registration fee for 5K/10K includes a custom, die-cast finisher’s medal, race-swag item and chances to win prizes. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

6. Downtown Halloween Costume Parade

Kids and families are invited to show off their best costumes for a parade through town. Meet at the Mason County Courthouse before 1:30 p.m. to be in the parade. If you just want to watch, line Ludington Avenue between Harrison Street and Rath Avenue; it starts at 1:45 p.m.

7. Paint a Pumpkin

The Creation Station tables are open, and children can get their imaginations going with this artistic activity at Sandcastles Children’s Museum, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. What a fantastic way to get into the holiday spirit before taking to the downtown streets for trick-or-treating.

8. Downtown Trick-or-Treating

This daytime event attracts hundreds of young ones every year, when they may enter the businesses of downtown Ludington to trick-or-treat from 2-4 p.m. Grab a fall photo at the North James Street Plaza while you are out with your family, and check out the deals our businesses have to offer. Wind down after trick-or-treating at a free open house at the downtown library. Have a snack, watch a short movie and settle down with all of your candy loot, 4-5 p.m.

9. Spooky Slow Roll 2

Teens and adults will find interest in this nighttime, bicycle ride, which makes its way around town for about 5 miles (6-9 p.m.). Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes, and others will be raffled, to those who are brave enough to ride. Surprises are likely!

10. Ludrock’s Night of Fright 6

This is billed as Ludington’s biggest and best Halloween party and concert. Doors creak open at 6 p.m., with live music at 7. Only $5 per person, this adult event will feature food, drinks and dancing until midnight at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts. Costumes are welcomed. Throughout the night, you may want to visit Renee, the Born Intuitive, for a psychic reading. Proceeds will benefit LudRock.

Of course, city-wide Trick-or-Treating will also be held in Ludington and Scottville, October 31, 6-8 p.m.
