Seasonal U-Pick & Agricultural Opportunities

christoffersonThe wind is blowing in a little chillier, causing an overwhelming desire for cider and doughnuts, or perhaps some warm apple pie…there are many ways to get out and enjoy the change of season; one in particular is u-picking the tasty main ingredient of that pie. Throw on your sweaters and grab the kids for a great afternoon of picking and agricultural cool-weather fun, here are a few places that you can find in the Ludington area.

Christofferson Farms: For a small-scale, friendly farm for u-pick apples and other market items visit Christofferson Farms. You can find them open 7 days a week during the fruit season, closes October 15th for the winter.

Amber Elk Ranch: A world class bull elk experience, this is the place to go! Amber Elk Ranch is aamber 130 acre farm full of beautiful pastureland where you will see cows, spikers, calves, and bull elk up close.

Lewis Farm Market & Petting Farm: Stop inside for fresh produce, baked goods, ice cream and homemade fudge. Enjoy lots of activities for family fun from May through October each year with over 75 animals; it’s the perfect place to take the kids.

Fox Barn Market & Winery: If time to yourselves with a glass of wine is what you are after, Fox Barn Market & Winery is a great place to take it in; with fruit and traditional wines this is a great place to grab some snacks and wine by the glass. Get some early holiday shopping done at the large antique barn. 25 minutes south of Ludington.

fox barnShrine of the Pines: displayed in a Northwoods hunting lodge, a secluded space on the banks of the historic Pere Marquette River. Shrine of the Pines is honoring the lifetime works of Raymond W. Overholzer who created beautiful works from nature. Available to visit between the dates of May 15th and October 15th.

 

Be sure to soak in all the cool weather fun before the school year gets away from you! The agricultural industry here in the Ludington area is something to really be appreciated.

The third and final sunset bonfire of the summer-season is upon us. Let’s take delight in our last Thursday in August with a bonfire, good friends and of course Lake Michigan. Local Musician, Tim Krause, will be providing live entertainment for all to enjoy. Bring your own beach chair and blankets for your comfort around the bonfire. Come celebrate this incredible bonfire and live music on Thursday, August 27th from 8-10pm. Let’s end the summer right!

August 4thScottville Clown Band Concert/ Corn Roast, 4-9pm

If you are looking for an experience to remember, put August 4th in your calendar and head on down to the White Pine Village Corn Roast to watch the Scottville Clown Band and their extraordinary talent. Their one of a kind attire and fun-going personalities will attract everyone of all ages to attend.  You want to hear more of the Scottville Clown Band?  There are many scheduled performances for the month of August, so mark them down, and continue the tradition, not only for the month of August, but for many years to come.

August 6thFirst of 4 Movies in the Park, dusk @ Ludington City Park

Want to make your family movie night a little more spontaneous?  It’s time to ditch the T.V. and come on out to the Ludington Rotary Park every Thursday night in August to watch some of your favorite movies. Bring your own chairs, blankets and snacks, and get settled in for a relaxing movie night under the stars! Kids activities are also included, usually in tandem with the theme of the movie. August 8th-9th-  32nd Annual Gold Coast Artisan Fair @ Ludington City Park

At The Gold Coast Artisan Fair you will have access to an array of homemade craft items, paintings, photographs, as well as gifts. On Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m, and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m, the Artisan Fair will be open for fair goers to experience all the unique vendors.

August 11th-15th- Western Michigan Fair @ Mason County Fairgrounds

Let’s reap the benefits of being in a small town that has access to the Mason County Fairgrounds right in our backyard. The fair has been held almost every year since 1936 at the Mason County Fairgrounds on US-10 in Ludington. There are many attractions for the public to enjoy and participate in. If you have never had the opportunity to attend a fair, now is the time! We welcome you to enjoy yourself at the Mason County Fairgrounds in Ludington.

August 15th7th Annual Suds on the Shore Craft Beer & Wine Festival

Suds on the Shore is an annual beer tasting festival hosted by Ludington. This Craft Beer and Wine Festival will be featuring over 50 different styles of beer, cider, wine and mead. Tickets cost $25.00 in advance and $30.00 at the door. All attendees must be 21 years of age or older to enter and present their ID.  Suds on the Shore Festival will be held at Ludington City Park Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Come experience some home-brewed beer in the presence of good company. Order your tickets online, or buy them at the gate.

August 27thSunset Bonfire

This is the third and final Sunset Bonfire of the summer, and you don’t want to miss it. There is going be live music by Tim Kraus, as well as a huge bonfire for everyone to enjoy. This event is free and open to the public. The more the merrier. Bring your own chairs and blankets and lets celebrate the beauty of Lake Michigan together. The bonfire will start at 8:00 p.m and end at 10:00 p.m. See you at Stearns Beach!
