Boating & The Big Lake

Along the sandy, 28-mile Lake Michigan shoreline of Mason County and the bustling port of Ludington, boating and sailing can be relaxing, as well as the adventure of a lifetime. As you appraoch the piers from Lake Michigan, you are greeted with rolling sand dunes, deep greens of tall trees, two iconic lighthouses and a scattering of homes and cottages. The blues of the water against the bright-white, sugar-sand shoreline looks like something found in the Carribean. None the less, it the beauty of Lake Michigan.

One of few deep water ports, the Port of Ludington offers a range of amenties for boats and vessels of all sizes. The Ludington Municipal Marina and Harbor View Marina are full-service marinas with modern amenities and facilities. Whether you are stopping in for fuel to your destination or looking to stay for a few nights, our marinas are highly rated and recommended by boaters and sailors alike. Just steps away from both marinas is the bustling downtown area, full of great shopping and dining, as well as award-winning beaches and parks.

We cannot talk about Lake Michigan without mentioning our history of bountiful fishing. The fishing boats, depending the season, are chasing salmon, lake trout, browns, steelhead and many more. The charterboat fleet keeps the harbor bustling.  So if you are looking for an adventure, hire a charter to take you out to cast some lines. If you are looking for something a little more scenic, go for a sunset cruise.

Anglers can enjoy Hamlin Lake year round. The lake and its bayous offer an outstanding variety of fish, including walleye, bass, perch, and bluegill. For those traveling without a boat, there are plenty of places to rent a boat to take out on the water and cast a line. When sun sets on Summer and Winter sets in, the fishing doesn’t end.
