Find Adventure on the Lakeshore

West Michigan offers adventure on the lakeshore that is unmatched. With vast natural resources, including rivers, lakes, sand dunes and beaches, the area is the perfect destination for daily recreation, a weekend getaway or an extended vacation.

For a rustic, outdoorsy approach, Buttersville Campground is the ideal spot overlooking the “big lake.” The park boasts 60 electrical and natural sites, hiking paths, public beaches and a children’s playground. Guests find it a splendid location for swimming, boating, jet skiing or just relaxing on the beach or around a campfire.

Visitors also find it an ideal place to try their luck at catching a lake trout or salmon. A public boat launch on Pere Marquette Lake is just down the street, or you might just grab a pole and cast from shore. The campground will accommodate fishermen with up-to-date weather information for the day’s activities and overflow boat parking.

Be sure to bring a camera on your trip, so you can capture the stunning Lake Michigan views and sunsets from the bluff!

A few miles from the campground is Lakeside Links Golf Course, which features 27 challenging holes that are meticulously maintained and can be enjoyed by all ages and golfing abilities. Beautiful hardwoods, wetlands and spectacular views of neighboring Hopkins Lake make this a favorite golfing destination for both residents and visitors of the Ludington area. Leagues, professional lessons and memberships are available.

Silver Lake Sand Dunes

Just a half-hour south of Ludington, nearly 2,000 miles of sand dunes are yours to explore in Silver Lake. The state park boasts a campground, hiking trails, mature forest and an off-road vehicle scramble area, where ORV enthusiasts flock each season for fun in the sun.

Rent a buggy or quad, take a ride with Mac Woods, or simply enjoy some time on the beach with your crew. There are four miles of Lake Michigan beach and an inland lake for boating.

You won’t want to miss the Little Sable Lighthouse, built in 1874, is the perfect place to stop for a picnic on the beach or to catch a magnificent Lake Michigan sunset. Visitors can climb to the top for a small admission fee and take in the amazing scenery from a lofty vantage point.

Silver Lake is also home to an adventure park with go karts and mini golf, a canoe livery, historic downtown and museum. Plan your trip to Silver Lake, a place tailor-made for a family day trip or vacation.
