Ludington’s Top 5 Activities for Memorial Day Weekend

The kickoff weekend to the summer season is anything but ordinary in 2020, but there are a number of ways to safely enjoy some social-distancing activities. Get outdoors, stretch your legs and do some exploring. We’ve compiled a list of options to make your planning easier.

1. Head to the links

All of Mason County’s golf courses are open for business, and it’s a perfect time to practice your swing as you head into summer. Golf carts are sanitized, and courses have taken numerous steps for you to be able to enjoy your time outdoors safely.

2. Go fishing

Spring is a fantastic time for fishing in Ludington. The Pere Marquette River is over 60 miles long without any man-made dams on it, making it one of the best fisheries in the state. You can access the river in Ludington, Scottville, Custer, at Indian Bridge and Walhalla in your springtime quest for brown or rainbow trout. If you’re a bass fisherman, head to Hamlin Lake. Charters in Lake Michigan have been catching king salmon, lake trout and a few brown.

3. Check out our trails

Hike or bike the miles of trails that can be found in Mason County. From trails in the heart of Ludington to state park routes and paths at Nordhouse Dunes, there’s no shortage of places to explore the outdoors. If you’re up for an adventure, check out the kayak trails on Hamlin Lake in the state park.

4. Have a picnic

Ludington restaurants are offering some amazing deals on to-go options, and it’s a perfect time to grab some takeout and head to a local park or beach. Call ahead, place your order and most places will bring it to you curbside. Also check out the 10 Spot, where food trucks are serving, or House of Flavors ice cream.

5. Catch a sunset

No matter the season, sunsets over Lake Michigan are nothing less than spectacular. Head to one of the local beaches, enjoy the breeze and capture the colors of Pure Ludington with your phone or camera.
