Whether you are traveling to Ludington or enjoying a staycation, here are some things you can plan during your time off from work and school.
1. Take Advantage of a Spring Deal
Ludington hotels and bed & breakfasts are making it easy to get away on an economical family trip. Through April 28, when you stay one night, you’ll receive 50 percent off the second-night’s stay (valid Sunday - Thursday). 2. Break out the Bikes
Ludington is home to a 10-mile bicycle loop in town that will take you through three local parks. These are ideal for beginning riders and families. You can also check out the 4 miles of paved trails at the Ludington State Park. All locations are beautifully forested and provide views of area waterways.

If you’ve never seen the Big Sable Lighthouse, now is the time to go. Inside the state park, a 1.8-mile trek will take you to a scenic spot on Lake Michigan where the views are unmatched. Look for info here.
Another location that is perfect for exploring is the Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness Area north of Ludington. This ecosystem is picturesque with interdunal ponds, hiking trails and spectacular Lake Michigan beach area.

The Mason County Historical Society, who manages Historic White Pine Village and the Port of Ludington Maritime Museum, provides a bevy of online resources and interactive experiences on its virtual education page, including Historical Photo Detective, Mason Memories essay, virtual history hunts, outdoor scavenger hunts, and journaling ideas.
Sable Point Lighthouse Keepers Association (SPLKA) offers online activities on these topics: The Properties of the Light (Lesson Plans on the Fresnel Lens), video of author Pamela Cameron reading her book "Sport Ship Dog of the Great Lakes," virtual tour of Big Sable Point Light, and Big Sable Point Lighthouse Virtual Escape Room.
5. Check Out an Animal Encounter
Get up close and personal with the animals at Lewis Adventure Farm & Petting Zoo, just south of Ludington in New Era. Beginning in April, you can schedule an experience with a kangaroo, sloth or lemur! Learn how to safely feed and interact with these animals with the zoo’s knowledgeable staff. Learn more here.
6. Try Disc Golf
Did you know? Mason County boasts six disc golf courses: Mason County Park with three 24-hole courses, including Goliath (3rd largest course in the world); Leviathan in Ludington School Forest with two courses; Scottville Riverside Park with The Edge; and WSCC with par-3 Labyrinth. Disc golf is a wonderful way to get outdoors, spend time with your family and try something new!

7. Visit the Children's Museum
Sandcastles Children’s Museum is a lively place to land for families with young children. Starting March 25, the museum offers a different, unique craft each day during break. Sign up early to reserve your spot! Of course, the museum is open for kids to check out the other exhibits as well – including the S.S. Badger, hospital, ice cream parlor and sound stage.
