Fall Food Fare in Pure Ludington

As you make your way around the county taking in the fall colors, Pure Ludington chefs are cooking up a myriad of choices for you! Stop by any of our downtown locations, and you are sure to find everything from quick and casual to upscale.

Bistro Fare

Ludington has a sweet spot for combining excellent food with great drinks and cozy settings, from Italian bistros to craft beer gastropubs, like the following favorites:

Jamesport Brewing Company -- Ludington’s first brew pub features tasty grub in a friendly, casual atmosphere that is also a slice of Ludington history, located in an 1890-era Victorian storefront that originated as a saloon and hotel. Its rich history is palpable today with high ceilings, exposed brick walls, windowed facade and wide, wooden doors. Jamesport offers an extensive menu, as well as hand-crafted beers, and overlooks the  Ludington harbor for views of the S.S. Badger or sunset. Loyal customers: Spend $100 and get $10 off with a punch card.

Ludington Bay Brewing Company -- This taproom and restaurant features 20-plus beers on tap daily and a 1,500-square-foot patio, where you can enjoy a custom brew or one of the many excellent dishes. Pizza are elevated to gourmet status with flavors like asparagus and crab rangoon, and entrees include “adult” mac and cheese, grilled mahi mahi and house-smoked back ribs. On Fridays, get free onion petals with the purchase of a pint and catch live music. Saturday’s Pizza & Pints offer is 2 pints with a build-your-own pizza for $20 - while the games play on TV.

Luciano’s Restaurant -- Dine at this charming mom-and-pop Italian restaurant and whet your appetite with Chef Leo’s mouth-water eggplant rollatini before moving on to a delicately prepared “Veal Luciano.” You might also try Leo’s famous white pizza! Every Monday and Tuesday until March, Luciano’s offers $1 off breadsticks, $7 fettucini bolognese, $6 spaghetti marinara and $7 fettucini Alfredo.

Comfort Food

House of Flavors -- Locals and visitors love this iconic 70-year-old, 50s diner and ice cream shop, which offers some of the best comfort food around. Breakfast is an all-day affair at this family-owned business, but it draws a crowd for lunch and dinner too. Don’t miss the freshly roasted turkey dinner with all the trimmings, and cap it all off with a scoop of one of 30 flavors of ice cream in house. From November 1 to April 30, get free ice cream with any meal after 11 a.m., and free fries with any sandwich!

Old Hamlin Restaurant -- This family-owned, family-friendly restaurant has been a Ludington tradition since 1942. Homemade bread, soups, pastries and pies are some of the well-known items at Old Hamlin, which also boasts a diverse menu -- including Greek, Italian and Mexican specialties. Steaks, seafood, sandwiches and appetizers are also on the menu. A breakfast & brunch buffet and drink specials start daily at 8AM.

Q Smokehouse -- This order-at-the-counter establishment offers delicious hot chicken, beef brisket, pork tenderloin and chopped pork, smoked daily on site, plus tasty Southern sides like smoked baked beans, mac and cheese, collard greens, coleslaw and potato salad. Scratch-made sauces and pickle condiments are also available. On Thursdays and Fridays, get a BBQ pork sandwich with a side for just $7.

Sportsman’s Restaurant and Bar -- Third-generation, family-owned Sportsman’s has been offering a destination of “great food, good spirits and friendly people” as its motto says, for more than 60 years. Whether you want to watch a football game while enjoying appetizers, like Sporty’s crazy crust and deep-fried pickle chips, or take your date out for walleye -- you will find a fun atmosphere here. On Tuesdays, tacos are just $2, and Happy Hour runs from 2:30-4:30 p.m. each day, with $3well drinks, $2 domestic longnecks and appetizer specials.

Jolly Plate -- If you’re up for a short drive, head north to Jolly Plate, where you’ll find some amazing breakfast and lunch choices to please your palate. You will love the biscuits and gravy or an omelette, prepared by hand in this homestyle kitchen. A variety of sandwiches, burgers and salads are included in the lunch options, with great sides like Brew City fries, onion rings and potato salad.

Upscale Dining

Blu Moon Bistro -- This stylish bistro in downtown Ludington specializes in fusion cuisine with a menu influenced by Japanese and French cooking techniques -- serving fresh, hand-rolled sushi, a variety of entrees and small plates, plus a full bar with specialty cocktails. Not to miss are $7 sushi nights Tuesday through Thursday, and a $11.99 prime rib special on Wednesday nights.

Scotty’s Restaurant -- The more casual cousin to P.M. Steamers, Scotty’s serves up delicious dishes, whether for a weekend brunch buffet (from Swedish pancakes to deluxe omelettes) or dinner. Run by the Scott family for more than 40 years, the restaurant is famous for its lake perch and prime rib, and offers weekly specials (watch the website). Enjoy a glass of wine, beer or spirits with your dinner.

Table 14 -- This is an upscale, Southern-inspired bistro, serving an eclectic and season menu that will transport you to the low country of Charleston, S.C., where Chef Howard did his culinary training. Feast upon Charleston crab cake sandwiches, she crab soup, shrimp and grits, Carolina sweet tea duck andNew Orlean crab and crawfish rolls, among other Southern specialties. Watch for daily features.
