1. Pure Ludington Sunset Beach Bonfires
On the last Thursday of June, July and August, you are invited to bring your beach chairs and blankets to Stearns Park Beach to enjoy a true “Up North” evening that includes a bonfire, music and a beautiful sunset. These free events run from 8-10 p.m., and if you’re lucky, you may even get a glimpse of the SS Badger carferry returning to port!
2. Ludington’s Sesquicentennial Celebration
The City of Ludington is observing its 150th birthday in style with a number of special activities, including a giant street party in Downtown Ludington on June 9. Live music, pony rides, bounce houses, and fireworks will be part of the fun! For a complete list of “Love Ludington Weekend” events, head to the website.
3. Gus Macker Charity Basketball Tournament
This Father’s Day weekend tradition in Ludington continues June 17-18, with 3-on-3 basketball play at the picturesque Stearns Park Beach on Lake Michigan. There will be 50 courts lining Stearns Outer Drive featuring contests for all ages. Food trucks and music add a festive feel to the event.
4. Ludington Area Jaycees Freedom Festival
Celebrate Independence Day in Ludington with a grand parade down Ludington Avenue on July 4 (1 p.m.) and a fireworks display at dusk. This is the quintessential July 4 experience with bands, floats, beach time and nightime show to celebrate our country’s birthday. You might even board the SS Badger for a Patriotic Shoreline Cruise and watch the fireworks from the ship! Plus, the West Shore Art Fair will be held over the weeked in Rotary Park, July 1-2, in conjunction with the festivities.
5. Ludington Offshore Classic
This annual week-long fishing tournaments brings 200 teams to the lakeshore to compete for large cash prizes. Payouts are over 100 percent, and crowd members will love to see the lunkers brought in to Waterfront Park for weigh-in each day, July 11-16! Learn more at ludingtontournament.com.
6. Suds on the Shore
More than 40 brewers attend the annual Suds on the Shore festival, featuring their craft beer, wine, cider and mead – so plan to spend an afternoon of tasting at beautiful Rotary Park! Live music and food fare will also be part of the festival, which benefits United Way of Mason County.
7. Rhythm & Dunes Concerts
West Shore Bank annual sponsors two huge concerts at Waterfront Park that are so well attended, you’ll want to arrive early! Food trucks, local jazz-band performances, headliner concerts, and dancing are planned for July 29 and August 5. The concerts are free, and proceeds from food sales benefit local music programs.
