Find Adventure on the Lakeshore

West Michigan offers adventure on the lakeshore that is unmatched. With vast natural resources, including rivers, lakes, dunes and beaches, the area is the perfect destination for daily recreation, a weekend getaway or an extended vacation.

Here are our Top 5 ways you can enjoy the shoreline in the Pure Ludington community.

Paddling
Whether you prefer a kayak, canoe or paddleboard, there’s plenty of opportunity to get on the water in Ludington! We have the perfect spot for a leisurely paddling expedition for the whole family. The 4-mile Ludington State Park Water Trail runs along the west shore of Hamlin Lake, adjacent to the state park, and is great for an afternoon on the water. Paddlers also love to explore the Pere Marquette and Sable rivers. Find equipment outfitters here.

SS Badger Cruise
Enjoy food, drinks, games and lounging on the deck as you take a four-hour trip from Ludington to Manitowoc, Wisconsin aboard the SS Badger: Lake Michigan Carferry. Find all the amenities here and book your trip during this year’s sailing season! This passenger ship also offers shoreline cruises, shorter two-hour excursions, which stay closer to shore. One such trip is a July 4 sail, where you can view the Independence Day fireworks from the boat!

Charter Fishing
Take a fishing trip on Lake Michigan with one of our experienced charter boat captains. Known as the #1 Salmon Fishing Port in Michigan, Ludington provides a great fishing experience for groups and families looking for adventure. Fishing on the “big lake” is a memorable experience, and our fleet of charter boat captains is all about hospitality and sending you home with a big catch. Once you get your fish cleaned, take it to The Blu Moon Bistro or Scotty’s Restaurant, where they will prepare a meal with your catch.

Anglers can also try fishing Hamlin Lake year-round. The lake and its bayous offer an outstanding variety of fish, including walleye, bass, perch, and bluegill. Seasoned fishermen from Hamlin Lake Guide Service will give you a pontoon tour of Hamlin Lake during the day or take you on an evening fish-spearing trip.

Boating
Hamlin Lake is also a popular attraction for boaters, and visitors to the area can take advantage of boat rentals offered at Ludington State Park, Hamlin Lake Boat Rental, and Sunset Bluff Resort.

A popular attraction is the dunes along the northern edge of the lake. Here, you can anchor your boat, take a swim, climb the dunes, or enjoy a beach-side picnic. This natural paradise is a great backdrop to an afternoon of memories.

Relaxing at the beach
Pure Ludington is equipped with some of the best beaches in the state. From the nationally acclaimed and beloved Ludington State Park, to the massive and amenity-packed Stearns Park Beach, there’s no shortage of options to relax a day away while enjoying the warm sand and panoramic views of Lake Michigan. Swim, throw a ball, build a sandcastle, or play a game of shuffleboard!

To find more secluded beaches, check out Buttersville Beach (dog-friendly) or Lake Michigan Recreation Area.

Plan your getaway and mark these adventures on your itinerary. Be sure to bring a camera on your trip so that you can capture the stunning views and sunsets!
