Ludington: a Destination for Michigan-Crafted Beer

Ludington has become a true craft beer destination in Michigan, drawing beer enthusiasts year-round to explore local brews, enjoy community events, and embrace the warmth of its welcoming beer scene. From cozy brewery atmospheres to bustling festivals, Ludington offers plenty of ways for visitors to sip and savor, especially as the fall and winter months set the perfect backdrop for rich, seasonal flavors. Here’s a deeper look into what you can expect from Ludington’s breweries and upcoming beer festivals this season.

Discovering Ludington’s Breweries

Jamesport Brewing Company (JBC)

A cornerstone of Ludington’s beer scene since 2000, Jamesport Brewing Company is affectionately known as “The Pub” by locals. JBC led the way in popularizing craft beer in the region, introducing West Michigan to a wide range of styles from stouts to IPAs and everything in between. With 12 house-brewed beers on tap, including year-round staples and rotating seasonal brews, there’s always something fresh to try. During the winter, the cozy ambiance inside is ideal for enjoying a strong Scottish ale or spiced wheat beer. During warmer months, JBC’s deck offers scenic views of the harbor and occasional glimpses of the historic SS Badger.

Ludington Bay Brewing Company

Located on South James Street, Ludington Bay Brewing Company is a must-visit for anyone coming to town. As one of Ludington’s newer breweries, it stands out with its sleek, modern taproom featuring a glass wall where you can watch the brewing magic unfold. In the warmer months, enjoy a spacious outdoor patio; as temperatures drop, their indoor seating offers a cozy refuge with a vibrant, yet relaxed ambiance. Ludington Bay’s tap list frequently rotates, ensuring seasonal specialties and experimental brews are always on hand. Try a dark and warming stout or spiced winter ale, perfect for chilly days, paired with their menu’s hearty dishes designed to complement each pour. And if your visit to Ludington coincides with one of their beer dinner events, be sure to snag a ticket for these one-of-a-kind dining experiences.

The Mitten Bar

Recognized by Draft Magazine as one of America’s Top 100 Beer Bars for three consecutive years, The Mitten Bar is an iconic stop in downtown Ludington. Known for its intimate, rustic vibe, The Mitten exclusively serves Michigan-made beer, spirits, and wines, celebrating the state’s vibrant craft scene. Beyond the brews, it’s a fantastic spot to experience live music, with frequent performances adding to the lively atmosphere. This fall and winter, cozy up in this laid-back setting with one of their robust Michigan IPAs or a locally-made cider. It’s a place where locals and visitors alike come together to embrace the flavors of Michigan.
